Illegal Immigrants, Go Home!

Hey, Check this out...

From Breitbart.com today:

"Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said his department aims without exception to expel all those who enter the United States illegally.
Our goal at DHS (Homeland Security) is to completely eliminate the 'catch and release' enforcement problem, and return every single illegal entrant, no exceptions.
It should be possible to achieve significant and measurable progress to this end in less than a year," Chertoff told a Senate hearing."

I have said before that this is THE hot button issue for the upcoming election cycle...

I just hope that he is serious...

It's about time.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Don't hold your breath. Chertoff was talking only about the 130,000 non-Mexicans that are apprehended each year. They come from all over the world. They are given a court date & then released. 98% never show on the court date. Ya think? Any one of those 130,000 could be a terrorist. They purposely get caught. The court summons is called El Permiso by them - meaning that it is an easy way to travel in the USA. If stopped by law enforcement, they show their El Permiso & are let go.

The Bush adminisration is a total failure in protecting this country from terrorists entering through our borders. But by God, you're Granny ain't getting on a plane without a thorough check.

The government will continue to do nothing to seal the borders. Sorry to burst the bubble.

And the reason for that is that our agricultural industry would have to pay a living wage otherwise.
Sorry to say it, but that too, is true.

Without exception?
Sure sounds to me like he means everybody they catch, Francis.

Like I said in the post, I sure hope that they are serious, but I, like Toad, will believe it when I see it.

Bachelor, What, exactly is a living wage?

Entire sectors of the economy would stumble. It happens everytime a nation fails to deal with illegal immigrants (fricking TRESPASSERS) as the problem occurs, and then tries to go backward. Spain and the Moors come to mind.

Throw up a fence and guard it. Naturalize the ones who are here.

Tug - here is the direct quote from Chertoff's statement to Congress:

"Today, a non-Mexican illegal immigrant caught trying to enter the United States across the southwest border has an 80% chance of being released immediately because we lack the holding facilities. Therefore, it is critical that we solve the problem of detention in order to carry out an effective enforcement strategy.

Through a comprehensive approach, we are moving to end this “catch and release” style of border enforcement by reengineering our detention and removal process.

Past experience has indicated that a concentrated effort at removal can actually deter illegal entries by non-Mexicans on the southwest border. Our plan is to expand removals by better utilizing our detention and removal assets to increase turnover.

Our goal at DHS is to completely eliminate the “catch and release” enforcement problem, and return every single illegal entrant – no exceptions. It should be possible to achieve significant and measurable progress to this end in less than a year."

He is talking non-Mexicans, not the 10-20 million illegal Mexicans aleady here ( which by the way means 10-20% of Mexico's population is in the USA illegally.)

ER, that wouldn't solve the problem of how to force the EEE-VILL rich farmers to pay skilled-labor wages to unskilled farm workers...

as to the problems with the Economy, the market would work it out.

We can't complain about them taking jobs away from Americans, and artificially lowering wages, and then complain that the Economy would stumble if they are removed.

Either we want the problem solved, or we don't.

I agree with your plan, ER, as long as we make an effort to positively identify the ones who are here, and remove any criminals who are among them.
But we would really have to get serious about guarding the Border if we naturalized the ones who are here, or we will cause another tidal wave of Illegal immigration and make the problem even worse than it is.
(Just like Ronaldus Magnus did.)

Just like him:

Well that is a hard one to respond to. Jesus doesn’t have anything to do with the picture. I have just heard O'reilly and those guys saying how it wasn't a big deal what happened at Abu Ghraib but if people were doing those things to let's say, Jesus, people would feel a lot different about it. No one cares until it happens to their guy.

As far as Jesus goes I think he was a good man with a good message but maybe a little deranged. But in general I don't think he was the son of God but I don't have a problem with him, just his "followers". Or at least the ones who call themselves Christians but don't actually believe in anything Jesus taught. I am talking about the "abomination", eye for an eye crowd.

Substitute the word "minimum" for "living", then.

What would happen to the rest of us if all illegal immigrants were suddenly (or even slowly) sent back to where ever they came from? The cost of almost all food would rise dramatically, the cost for many services and other products would rise. Some things would not have their prices rise, they would just be unavailable, at any cost.

Our economy really does rely on these people who will work long hard hours for low pay and no benefits. I don’t know how to treat this problem of illegal immigration, but we cannot do without them.

Yes, maybe, but think about what would happen to taxes, and wages if they were all suddenly removed.

You have no idea what a drag illegals put on our medical system, school systems, and welfare system.

The work that they do HAS to be done.
If they were not here to do it, then it would go to whomever WOULD do it, and for the price that THEY set, not the sub-minimum wages and lack of benifits that illegals will work for.

Believe me, the pro's outweigh the con's on this issue.

I'll say it again...

The Market will work all of this out, if it is left alone to do so, and we would all be better off.

And, Donna, I visited your website, and you are pushing an agenda.
I have no problem with anyone from any othe r country who wants to enter the U.S. through the proper channels.

Illegal Aliens are breaking the law, and should be prosecuted just like any other criminal.

The fact that the U.S. Economy has become dependant upon these criminals for ANYTHING is unforgivable. Whatever hardship we as U.S. Citizens have to bear to right this wrong is, in the end, worth it.

This problem HAS to be solved, whether the criminal Illegal Aliens like it or not.

And, Bachelor...

The Minimum Wage is hardly a "Living Wage..."

I wouldn't work for minimum wage, and I don't have anyone to support but myself.

(My Wife makes her own money...)

Minimum wage is a political tool, used by Democrats and Liberals to fool the dim-witted into believing that they actually CARE about the plight of the downtrodden.

If you are trying to support a family on a minimum wage job, You are an IDIOT, and Social Services should come and take your children away from you, and give them to a family that will actually invest some time, money, and effort into aquiring a marketable skill that they can sell in order to more adequately provide for children.

If the minimum wage is too low, then DON'T TAKE MINIMUM WAGE JOBS!!

The power to raise wages does, and should lie with the PEOPLE, NOT the Government.
The work has to be done, and the worker negotiates his own deal at the time of hire.
Work hard, and efficiently, and you will be paid accordingly.

This is common sense.
