Culture of Corruption...

Now, THERE'S a slogan for ya...

I am really amazed it took them this long to come up with it.

I guess it took a long time to put all the pieces into place for it to be even a little bit believable, but after enough time and enough consistant hammering in the MSM, enough unfounded and unproven allegations against enough different Republican elected officials and right wing national spokesmen and figureheads, with this week's indictment of Tom Delay, they think that now they may be able to get the lable to stick.

Culture of Corruption...

Here is something that I found at the Progressive Review website. (It's kinda long, but worth the read, unless you are more interested in partisanship, than truth.)

It is a list of records set during the Clinton administration. (Interestingly, the way I found this was, I typed in the words "Clinton Legacy" on Google, and this was the first link that came up. For those of you interested in white-washing the former President's reputation and repairing his "Legacy"... you still have a LOT of work to do.)

- The only president ever impeached on grounds of personal malfeasance.
- Most number of convictions and guilty pleas by friends and associates.*
- Most number of cabinet officials to come under criminal investigation.
- Most number of witnesses to flee country or refuse to testify.
- Most number of witnesses to die suddenly.
- First president sued for sexual harassment.
- First president accused of rape.
- First first lady to come under criminal investigation.
- Largest criminal plea agreement in an illegal campaign contribution case.
- First president to establish a legal defense fund.
- First president to be held in contempt of court.
- Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions.
- Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions from abroad.

And now the REPUBLICANS are the "Culture of Corruption", because Tom Delay has been indicted for one count of "Conspiracy" (to do what??) and Karl Rove is mean and nasty, and Republicans believe in GOD (!), and they want to take away ALL of our RIGHTS (!!), and... and...

Okay, All of you Democrats out there...
All of you Clinton supporters...
All of you Bush-Haters...
Maybe the President and everyone in his entire administration is as dirty as...as...

As Clinton was.

But you guys don't get to be the ones to point that out to me.

You blew your chance to make a stand against "Corruption" when it was YOUR corrupt guy in office.

So now I am going to take a page from the Democrat Playbook, and support my party, just like you guys did, and continue to do.

I don't want to hear it. Not from you...Not Now.

Get your talking points straight before you come up in here spamming all over my comments page!!

Amen bro! And tell that realitycheckmate it's time for a reality tuneup. That cookies been out in the sun too long.

You just scratched the surface with the culture of corruptiong thingee..

I found a chart fromt the LA Times a while back showing all the lobbyist money that sons of Senator Harry Reid had received and all the legislation that benefited the lobbyists clients that good ole Harry introduced.

I have to dig that one up again.

The link to that chart is:

Thanks for reminding me of that, Mike.

Pretty revealing chart is it not?

And don't forget. The Clinton Administration was supported and apologized for by the MSM, so God only knows how much more there was going on there that went unreported.

I had an upclose and personal insight into the Clinton magic... just me, Bill and Hill in the middle of a DC side street before he was nominated... Told me all I needed to know...

tugboatcapn said...

Thanks for the link, Mike.

I am not going to stand by and let my party be labeled a "Culture of Corruption" by the people who seem to have no problem with corruption as long as they are in power.

The very attempt is outrageous.

I hope that this latest attempt to derail the Republican agenda with an unfounded accusation of corruption inspires a lot of Republicans to stand up and refuse to take it anymore.

If you want to point out corruption, There's a lot more of that on the other side than on our side, so let's investigate.

Let's drag ALL of the corruption into the light, and punish all guilty parties.

GAME ON.

tugboatcapn said...

Oh, Ho!!

Please elaborate, Mike...

Oh that one was very instructive... but remind me to tell you later... Meanwhile, use your imagination and you can't go far wrong.

For more on Nazi Pelosi, try this:

"Boehm pointed to NLPC’s successful complaint against Pelosi’s leadership PACs earlier this year. He said, “No other member of Congress has ever set up a second leadership PAC to evade contribution limits. Pelosi’s PACs were caught violating the clearest and most basic campaign finance law of all, the limits on contributions.”

He continued, “These are not vague or unsubstantiated allegations. These are actual and proven violations of the law. Given the level of Pelosi’s hypocrisy as a champion of what’s called campaign finance reform, they are more serious than anything alleged against DeLay.” "

I love that part...

Thanks again, Mike!

Wha'd Slick Willy do? Try to sell you drugs, or something?

Try to hook up a threesome with you and the Hildebeast?

(Nothing would surprise me...)

Where are you, Dems??

Let's talk about "Cultures of Corruption"!!

Well, a lot of us did, in fact, stand against him, or tried.
You got that the one up at the top was spam, right? Interestingly timed spam, I'll admit, but I think that it was a random thing.
But regardless of how I felt, anyone telling me that the media was on his side just wasn't paying attention, or was only paying attention to aspects of the media that spent all their time bashing him, always with the interesting caveat that The Media was giving the guy a smokescreen to hide behind. Bait and switch.
My problem, as always, is not only with the above reasons, but the far worse things the guy did, that for some reason never get commented on here.
The list above is pretty bad, I'll grant you, but didn't affect nearly as many people as NAFTA, The Defense of Marriage Act, Welfare "Reform", and the revitalizing of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms into a fightin' wing through which the federal government basically carried out vendettas. That's the short list.
The bombing of that pharmaceutical factory in Sudan pretty much counts as an atrocity in my book, but I think we've conceded over here that Presidents are often fed bad intelligence, and then when they act on it, are blameless.
Furthermore, are we in one of those phases of the moon where it's okay to call names again over here? If I used some equivalent of "Nazi Pelosi" in my comments, you guys'd be weeping openly about how mean those nasty liberals are. Consistency, please.

tugboatcapn said...

Point well taken, Bachelor.

I believe that the News Media went a little more lightly on Clinton than they would have gone on a Republican in the same situation, and certainly more lightly than they have gone on GWB, (who has not been found guilty of any crime...) but this could be a matter of perspective.

I still stand by my point.

The Dems are trying to use the Tom Delay indictment as an opportunity to apply the label of a "Culture of Corruption" to Republicans, and after the Clinton administration, they have absolutely no room to talk.

If Republicans are corrupt, they learned it from the Democrats.

tugboatcapn said...

And I try not to call names as a regular habit.

I will occasionally do it, though.

My commentors are free to express themselves however they want to, within certain limits.

I will occaisionally forgive an incident of name-calling if it is contained in a comment that actually has some substance.

If the whole comment consists of nothing but name calling and hatred, I will intervene, and delete the comment. (It happens more often than you know, from both sides...)

tugboatcapn said...

And about the Spam thing, he was hawking a website, his comment had really nothing to do with the subject of my post, and he has no blog of his own, so I treated him as spam, interestingly timed as he was.

Looked like Spam to me...

rich bachelor said...

Yeah, maybe you and I need to install those Drunk Catchers (as I call them) that Mark and ER have. Seems to stop spam, anyway.

Erudite Redneck said...

Just lettin' you blow steam, Tug.

Of course, I think your assessment of how the MSM treated Brer Clinton is way off.

Something to remember, though: 24/7 cable newws was still feeling its way back then; the Internet wasn't what it is now; Drudge drove a stake in Clinton at every opportunity. In fact, I think the concept of "the media" has changed so much, so fast, since 1993, it'd be pretty dang hard to compare 1983 media with 1993 media with present media.

And, of course, there is corruption on all sides of the aisle. Sin abounds. That doesn't mean we should all just keep quiet about it.

Also, read some more history, boys; this kind of thing didn't start in our lifetime. Ol' Andy Jackson got called way, way worse. But then it didn't start with him, either. Twas always thus in this country's politics.

For myself, though: What keeps me warm is the anger and resentment I still feel for the way Brer Clinton was treated from Day One by the Righty Rights. What REALLY sustains me, though, through news cycles, election cycles and hurricanes, is the criminal hypocrisy and madness of the Reagan administration. Hey, we all got our demons.

But killing a bunch of Arabs who had nothing to do with 9/11 is ok as long as you can blame your lie on the British. Is that what you are saying? Just because he had more "friends" under investigation just proves how dirty Republicans are and that they are the true party of corrupt partisan politics.

tugboatcapn said...

ER, I said myself that my opinion of the way the media treated Clinton as opposed to the way they treat President Bush could be a matter of perspective, so I stand by that comment.

And while we're on the subject of perspective, everybody wants to believe that the other side's guy is dirtier than their own guy, whether he is or not.
I remember how the News Media hated President Reagan, as well as the Hollywood Left, but I haven't heard him called "A mad criminal hypocrite" in a lot of years...

The difference is, we can look up Clinton's corruption in the court records...
If I'm not mistaken, he and Nixon are the only two modern Presidents who share that distinction (Which puts Clinton in pretty good company, all things considered.)

And yes Toad, that makes it all right.
The opinion of the President and all conservatives, as you know, is that there are WAY too many A-rabs in the world as it is. Anything that we can do to reduce the number of brown people in the world is a good thing. (said Tug, feeding Toad's paranoid partisan fantasies and delusions.)

tugboatcapn said...

And I have actually thought about installing a drunk test, but I have too much fun making fun of the spam.

Maybe later.

And ER, do not dismiss my post as a mindless rant.

I am sick of the treatment that Conservatives get lately.

We are not corrupt, simply because of our ideaology, and I have every right to point out the attempt to do so, and to call attention to the hypocracy of the effort being made by the people who are attempting it.

Erudite Redneck said...

Come on, dude, I've never questioned your rights. Just yer thinkin' ... :-)

And the only *mindless* rants I ever saw here were Bruiser's.

Since installing word verification I have had 1 spammer. I really thought i would not get any.

Tug, I don't really know if Delay is guilty of anything or not, but it is painfully obvious that he is far from the only one who has questionable associations.

In fact, if one were to do an extensive search I'll bet there isn't a Senator or Congressman in Washington that doesn't have a skeleton or two in the closet.

tugboatcapn said...

I totally agree, Mark.

That is why I have said repeatedly:

Let's investigate. Let's drag the guilty parties into the light, and punish ALL of them, no matter WHAT their party affilliation.

I do not want dishonesty and corruption in my government.

When you have that, no one is free.

Do you question my thinking on that one, ER?

Erudite Redneck said...

Nope.

As I said in my latest post on the Delay problem, we've all learned that standards for conduct and ethics are only meant to be applied to Republicans.
